Interview Techniques with Author, Entrepreneur and University Instructor Mark Herschberg

Welcome to the Wellbeing and Career World Podcast, I am delighted to be chatting with author of The Career Toolkit, Essential Skills for Success That No One Taught You. From tracking criminals and terrorists on the dark web to creating marketplaces and new authentication systems, Mark has spent his career launching and developing new ventures at startups and Fortune 500s and in academia. He helped to start the Undergraduate Practice Opportunities Program, dubbed MIT’s “career success accelerator,” where he teaches annually. At MIT, he received a B.S. in physics, a B.S. in electrical engineering & computer science, and a M.Eng. in electrical engineering & computer science, focusing on cryptography. At Harvard Business School, Mark helped create a platform used to teach finance at prominent business schools. He also works with many non-profits, including Techie Youth and Plant A Million Corals. He was one of the top-ranked ballroom dancers in the country and now lives in New York City, where he is known for his social gatherings, including his annual Halloween party, as well as his diverse cufflink collection. Our podcast today will focus on Interview techniques and how to put your best self out there during an interview.

Mark chats about his background, What it is like to study at M.I.T., is it difficult to get into M.I.T., Is there ever a perfect interview, what are some of the techniques to answer questions in an interview, is it allowed to pause before answering or skip an interview question, is an interview a game, for example is it best to play pretend and get the job or be yourself, What about good cop and bad cop interviewers(How to handle them), what about tell me about yourself questions, advice to someone who has been unsuccessful at interview, what about body Language during the interview and a lot more is discussed throughout the podcast.
